25 Aug Nextdoor Nature – Scottish Wildlife Trust
What is Nextdoor Nature?
The Scottish Wildlife Trust has received funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to create a community-oriented nature learning programme, which will be focusing on creating community leadership, and supporting communities to get actively involved in nature in their neighbourhoods and build connections with others, both in their local areas, and with groups participating in the course across Scotland.
The programme will be a 6-month long project, wherein participants will complete core courses on topics such as basic wildlife recognition, how to community organise, and how to fund projects, alongside other elective topics. We will also be conducting a practical element, where participants will end the course with something in their neighbourhoods changed to benefit nature – these can be as varied as the community wants, for example creating a pond in your local community centre, teaching neighbours how to build a bird box for gardens and balconies or creating a bug hotel in a local park. It will predominantly be online, but ideally bookended with 2 meetings in person at our nature reserves.
